You learn something new every day

Julia has two best friends named Natalie and Meagan. Here they are at our local library in a photo that was printed in the monthly library newsletter. (That's Natalie on the left, Meagan on the right and Julia in the middle.)

Because we are moving in two weeks, the girls all wanted their own email addresses so they could stay in touch with each other. So Julia and I sat down the other night to set up her account. She wanted her address to contain the words "pink whale." "Pink" for her favorite color and "whale" for her favorite animal. So I got her all set up and we added Natalie, Meagan and my parents to her address book. She's been getting mail from all of them several times a day and she's been loving it.

So my mom calls me yesterday and says, "Umm...when you get a chance, you might look up 'pink whale' at urbandictionary.com."

So I did.

Oh. My.

Oh. My. Indeed! So will you be helping her choose a new address??

Well, we figure since she'll only be conversing with her grandparents and other 7-year-olds, it will probably be OK. Besides, after looking around at urbandictionary.com, it looks like ANYTHING can have some kind of vulgar meaning.

can you kind of clean up the act before you roll into Arkansas? We aren't use to the Urban dictionary. Do they make a redneck dictionary?

Well, Lynn, here's today's featured definition from the urban dictionary:

    bo-duke it

to enter a vehicle such as a convertible or Jeep by jumping in the side rather than opening the door.

On the Dukes of Hazzard, Bo Duke used to bo-duke it all the time.

A lot of rednecks like to bo-duke it into their Ford F-150s.

I'm more curious about your mom's knowledge. So was she already familiar with the term "pink whale" or was she already familiar with urbandictionary.com? Either way, she's pretty hip and in!

Why was Mardale (sp?) at the Urban dictionary website? How does SHE know about it? Disturbing! :-)

Deana you are right. ANYTHING can be made into something vulgar. The concern I'd have as a mom would be that she might get some unwanted spam.
This is the part of the internet that I hate.

Ahhh! I audibly gasped and put my hand over my mouth. My husband looked up from his book and said, "What?"

How crazy is that. I, too, am curious about your mom's knowledge of Urbandictionary. Interesting.

Warning - "bo-duking" it could be very detrimental to your body - we got to spend an evening in an out of town emergency room for just such an adventure - seriously.
