Where in the world is...

I've been listening to Morning Edition on NPR lately. I like it for the most part, but have you ever noticed that sometimes they go ON and ON about NOTHING???

Like last week they had a series -- a whole series -- about "The Search for Bin Laden." Couldn't that be pretty much summed up by just saying, "WE HAVEN'T FOUND HIM YET."

I love Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac," though. Of course it's only like four minutes...

That's one reason I'm not crazy about listening to NPR. Some of the reporting can be summed up in the words, "The world's a lousy place, and it's all the fault of the United States of America."

Re Bin Laden: If a person does not want to be found, and they have the resources to hide themselves, they will not be found. Not necessarily the fault of the USA!

I agree with Deana about NPR. My husband has that on his wake up alarm. Some mornings I wake up to news stories that I'm thinking, "Who cares? Get on with it." Yes many of those stories could be summed up in a sentence. I'm not much of a talk radio person, but I do listen to Prarie Dog Companion if I'm in the car and my husband has it on. Its pretty fun listen to.

I agree about Bin Laden. Besides, even if he were found, could we be as relaxed and worry-free as we were before 9/11? I'm thinking not.

Mary Lou -- I'm pretty sure you meant "Prairie Home Companion," but "Prairie Dog Companion" is lots funnier!

I love NPR. It's stories are not always newstories but just interesting little tidbits. I used to listen much more when my drive to work was longer. Now I get about 4 minutes of news on my way to work.

I guess you could say that my taste for NPR was handed down to me from MLs husband.

I'd rather hear about the search for Osama than the perils of the runaway bride any week!

I generally like NPR, mainly because it is one of the VERY few news sources that doesn't (always) feel the need to sensationalize their news. It is what it is.

About finding bin Laden: So what? He's near dead anyway, and most US intelligence sources don't believe he has much to do with the day-to-day operation of al-Qaeda anymore. I think the only reason he's still an issue is because the Republican propaganda machine makes him one, so that if they do find him, Dubya, Rummie, and the boys can hold him up and say, "We gottum!"
